City receives budget presentation award
The City of Lebanon has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the current City budget from the Government Finance Office Association.
This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and, according to the GFOA is a significant achievement for the City's finance department. This is the fifth year the City has received this award.
"I strongly believe this wouldn’t come together as well as it does without our finance team and without the support of our department heads and division managers," said Kat Gill, director of finance.
"Our budget reflects the great team we have within the City. We like to write our story in a way that says where we have been and where we are going. Each year we try to improve upon this document to make it more understandable to our citizens," Gill added.
According to the GFOA, the award reflects the commitment of the City and the finance department's staff in meeting the highest principles of government budgeting. To achieve this award, the City had to recognize nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.
These guidelines are designed to access how well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.
"Budget documents must be rated 'proficient' in all four categories, and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award," a GFOA statement said.
"Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America," the statement said.
