City of Lebanon MO

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Water & Sewer Construction Department

Where does the drinking water in Lebanon come from?

The drinking water in Lebanon is pumped from 6 wells located throughout the City. The wells pump water from porous rock formations between 1,000 and 1,800 feet deep in the earth. Water is stored in 5 elevated storage tanks with a total storage capacity of 3 million gallons. Water is distributed throughout the City by means of a network of distribution mains ranging in size between 4” and 12”. The water carried through this distribution system is used for domestic, commercial, industrial and fire protection purposes.

Does the drinking water in the City require any treatment to make it safe?

No. The drinking water in the City meets state and federal safe drinking water standards without any type of treatment. Chlorine is added to the water at each well in small amounts to insure water quality at each point in the distribution system. Fluoride is added to the water at each well in amounts that are shown to promote dental health. The Missouri Department of Health Laboratory tests 10 drinking water samples per month from the City for water quality. The City has an excellent record of meeting safe drinking water standards.

Who do I contact if I have a question about my water bill or rates?

The Billing Office at City Hall, 417-532-2345, will help you with any questions that you may have regarding your water bill and will provide you with a copy of the water rate structure at your request. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Who do I contact to report a water-related problem or to answer questions about the water in Lebanon?

Contact City Hall, 417-532-2156, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or the Police Department, 417-532-3131 (after hours), to report any water-related problems or to contact Water Department personnel.

Street Department

When the City patches a street cut, why, in a few weeks, does it sag?

Rock and earth settle over time.

Why can't the City dig a ditch to get rid of water on our property?

The City is prohibited by law from working on private property.

What can I do with leaves and yard waste?

The City has a composting service located at our new Public Works Building, 1401 W. Commercial. Material to be composted is accepted there from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. Residents bringing loads must stop at the Public Works receiving office before unloading. Materials accepted are limbs, brush and stumps, leaves, grass and shrubbery clippings and all vegetation from lawn and gardens. We CANNOT accept any household trash, milled lumber, dirt or rocks.
The composting service is free for small pickup truck or trailer loads from residential property. Contractors must pay for loads, and the fee must be paid at the City Clerk's office at City Hall before the load is delivered to the Public Works Building.

Why can't we be warned ahead of time before our streets are closed?

The City makes weekly news announcements on the radio and in the newspaper about upcoming street work, and we try to notify residents with door-hangers in appropriate cases.

Why can't the City install “Children at Play” signs on our street?

The street is not a playground. If we install those signs, unfortunately, children have the idea that it is safe to play in the street.

Will the City take out a tree on private property?

No. The City is not allowed to work on private property.

When is the dump open?

City of Lebanon doesn't have a dump, but we do have a composting service at our new Public Works Building, 1401 W. Commercial. Please see the previous FAQ about composting.
