Here is a brief recap of major actions taken by the Lebanon City Council at the Sept. 26th regular meeting:
✅ Council passed Resolution No. 485 authorizing developmental fee waivers for 25 more new home constructions.
Why is this important?
The City of Lebanon needs more housing. Addressing the housing shortage has been a priority of the Lebanon City Council since early 2019. Council has already reduced development fees on more than 100 ready-to-build lots and the incentive has encouraged much more development in the City of Lebanon. This action will make more lots available at a reduce rate and hopefully spur more home construction in Lebanon.
✅ Council approved Bill No. 6359 authorizing the purchase of de-icing road salt.
Why is this important?
This purchase will ensure our street department is prepared to respond to any potential winter weather in the City of Lebanon.
✅ Council approved Bill No. 6360 for the purchase of a new street sweeper?
Why is this important?
Our street department works hard to keep our roadways clean. We faced a catastrophic failure with our street sweeper and the purchase of a new one was necessary for our staff to resume street sweeping upkeep.
✅ Council passed bills 6364 and 6365 authorizing an agreement for Lebanon Arbor Care to handle vegetation management services for the electric department and for Burk and Katska, LLC to handle tree trimming for the electric department?
Why is this important to our community?
Keeping trees trimmed and vegetation managed goes a long way in protecting our electric grid. Making sure trees and vegetation is trimmed and removed helps prevent potential future power outages.
✅ Council passed Bill No. 6366 authorizing the paving of the Hughes Senior Center Parking lot and a portion of 5th Street.
Why is this important?
The Hughes Senior Center is a popular destination for our senior citizens. This action will address needs to repair the parking lot and make sure it is in good shape for our seniors.
✅ Council Approved Bill No. 6367 authorizing the purchase of Christmas Decorations for Elm Street.
How does this impact the city?
This purchase will help increase the number of lights alone Elm Street during the Christmas season.
✅ Council approved Bill No. 6368 authorizing the purchase of Access Control Equipment for park and farmers market restrooms.
Why is this important?
Unfortunately, vandalism in park bathrooms after hours has been an issue. This new system will automatically lock all outdoor public restrooms at closing time and will unlock them at opening.
✅ In other news, council approved parade permits for the Lebanon High School Homecoming Parade, a Motorcycle Run for Share Your Christmas and for the Lebanon Christmas Parade. Council also reappointed Jeff Stokes and Mike Evans to four-year terms on the Zoning and Planning Commission ending in June 2026; appointed Howard Reagan to a one-year term on the Lebanon Area Veterans Memorial Board ending in June 2023 and reappointed Steven Marcum to a one-year term on the same board.
