The City of Lebanon proudly announces its partnership with Honor Flight of the Ozarks, in collaboration with the Association of the United States Army Fort Leonard Wood and Lebanon Friends of the Fort, to honor our local veterans by providing them with the opportunity to take part in the honor flight program.
Honor Flight of the Ozarks, a non-profit organization, offers all-expenses-paid trips to veterans, allowing them to visit and pay tribute to the memorials in Washington, D.C. These journeys provide a meaningful opportunity for veterans to reconnect with comrades, reflect on their service, and be honored for their sacrifices.
"We are honored to partner with Honor Flight of the Ozarks, AUSA, and Lebanon Friends of the Fort," said Lebanon Mayor Jared Carr. "Our goal is to ensure that several Lebanon veterans have the chance to participate in this incredible program."
The City of Lebanon, in collaboration with AUSA and Lebanon Friends of the Fort, is committed to making Honor Flight experiences possible for our veterans. We especially want to ensure that our World War II, Korean War, Vietnam, and Desert Shield/Storm Veterans can take part in this remarkable program.
The honor flight program is open to veterans who served during the following periods:
• World War II: December 7, 1941, to December 31, 1946.
• Korean Conflict: June 27, 1950, to January 31, 1955.
• Vietnam Era: February 28, 1961, to May 7, 1975, for veterans who served in the Republic of Vietnam during that period; otherwise, August 5, 1964, to May 7, 1975.
• Desert Shield/Storm: April 7, 1990, to August 2, 1996.
To support this initiative, we are asking the community to:
Spread the Word: Share this opportunity with veterans from these periods and encourage them to apply.
Volunteer: Offer your time and skills to support various aspects of the program, including operations, fundraising, or serving as a guardian during flights.
Fundraising and Sponsorship: Organize community events and seek sponsorships to cover the expenses associated with the veterans' trips. Donations can be left at the Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce.
"Together, we can ensure that our deserving veterans in the community are rightfully honored for their sacrifices," Carr said.
